How to check your NOUN result online

What we confirmed, and what we didn't

• Confirmed: nouonline.nou.edu.ng ("NOUN-SMS") is NOUN's student portal, login-walled, used for admission, registration and payment.
• Confirmed: a separate transcript-application portal exists at transcript.nou.edu.ng for official transcript requests — a different service from checking your own semester results.
• Not confirmed: we found no standalone public "result checker" page or PIN-based system on nou.edu.ng. If you've been told to buy a "result checker PIN" from a third party, that is not something we can verify NOUN uses — be cautious.

Result verification is a separate, paid service

NOUN's fee schedule lists a "Result Verification" charge (₦10,000 for new undergraduate and postgraduate students, per the 2022 fee schedule — see ourfees page) — this is for official verification of your result/certificate, typically for employers or further study, and is a different thing from simply viewing your own semester result on the portal.

What GPA, CGPA and carry-over mean

GPA (Grade Point Average) is your average grade points for one semester's courses, weighted by each course's credit units. CGPA(Cumulative GPA) is the running average across every semester so far — this is the number used for your final degree classification. A carry-over means you did not pass a course and must register and pass it again in a later session before it counts toward your CGPA and before some universities let you proceed past a dependent course — check with your facilitator whether a specific carry-over blocks progression in your programme, since this can vary by course sequencing.

Nigerian universities generally compute GPA as: (sum of grade points × credit units for each course) ÷ (total credit units that semester). We give this as the standard formula used across Nigerian tertiary institutions generally — we have not found a NOUN-specific published grading scale (e.g. exact score-to-grade-point boundaries) to cite, so confirm your programme's exact grading scale with your study centre or facilitator rather than assuming a specific A=5, B=4 scale applies uniformly.

Result not showing? Common causes

• Result not yet released: NOUN's exam and result processing follows its own academic calendar; there's no shortcut to a result before it's computed.
• TMA score missing from the computation: your total often combines TMA and exam scores — confirm your TMA was submitted and marked before assuming an error.
• Course shows no grade at all: confirm the course was properly registered (not just started) for that semester — an unregistered course won't show a result.
